mix. whisk. bake.

pretty in pink.

you know what i like?  i like to make things pretty.  what’s more prettier than pink?  (according to John Hughes – not much!)  and what’s more prettier than ruffles?

so, it was a no brainer to make a ruffle cake, inspired by domestic princess herself, Martha Stewart, for a cake order for a 50th birthday party.  it was for a group of ladies going out on the town!  this was my first time trying out the ruffle border.  I used a large ruffle icing tip and after coating the cake with buttercream, i zig-zagged my way up the edge of the cake using the ruffle tip.  The cake flavor was strawberry and had a deeper shade of pink than the vanilla buttercream – which i tinted just slightly to make it very pale and natural looking.

below is the evolution of the ruffle cake.  it was a fun one to make and it turned out really pretty – just like molly ringwald.
